Description
Named for the town stacked down a cliff face on the Amalfi Coast. The Positano has the same quality as the place — bright, unhurried, slightly theatrical.
Hand-knit in cotton, the pattern built into the fabric as it is made rather than printed on the surface. The clutch frame is set and the seams closed by hand.
Room for a phone, a card case, a lipstick and keys. Lunch by the sea, then dinner without going home to change.
Why it has this name
Every PAULINE is named after a place. The first was knitted in 1962 for a guest who stayed the summer, named after the town she came from. Twenty-six places later, we are still doing it — and members now choose which place comes next.
How it is made
Knitted stitch by stitch in cotton. The pattern is worked into the cloth as the fabric is made — never printed on top — so it cannot crack, peel or fade.
The clutch frame is set by hand and every seam closed by hand, in runs small enough to remember. Sized to hold a phone, a card case, a lipstick or two, keys and a small compact.
Living with it
Take it to the water. Shake the sand out, let it dry in open air, and reshape it with your hands rather than pressing it.
Spot clean only. Do not machine wash.

Since 1962
It started with a gift
Pauline knitted a pouch for a guest who stayed the summer and named it after the town she had come from. Twenty-six places later, we make them the same way — and the guests now choose the names.
