Description
Named after Puglia's white city, where the light comes off the walls and everything looks slightly overexposed. The Ostuni carries that same quietness.
Hand-knit in cotton with an open mesh structure worked directly into the fabric. Light in the hand, and finished by hand — the clutch frame set, every seam closed.
Holds a phone, cards, a lipstick and keys. The one that ends up living permanently in your beach bag rather than being packed for the occasion.
Why it has this name
Every PAULINE is named after a place. The first was knitted in 1962 for a guest who stayed the summer, named after the town she came from. Twenty-six places later, we are still doing it — and members now choose which place comes next.
How it is made
Knitted stitch by stitch in cotton. The pattern is worked into the cloth as the fabric is made — never printed on top — so it cannot crack, peel or fade.
The clutch frame is set by hand and every seam closed by hand, in runs small enough to remember. Sized to hold a phone, a card case, a lipstick or two, keys and a small compact.
Living with it
Take it to the water. Shake the sand out, let it dry in open air, and reshape it with your hands rather than pressing it.
Spot clean only. Do not machine wash.
